Sitka Blue Lake Dam, Barnard Construction (Sitka, AK 2012 – 2015)

The southeast city of Sitka improved a more than 50-year-old dam, which included raising the dam-face more than 80 feet for additional hydro capacity.  The general contractor enlisted three operated Alaska Cranes to assist with the construction.

The 600-metric ton Liebherr LR1600/2 crawler crane garnered the most attention due to its herculean size, jaw-dropping hoisting capabilities, and nimble execution of construction activities at the Dam extension site and gate house. This crane was configured with almost 400 foot of boom and outfitted with a ballast wagon capable of holding an additional 771K of counterweight to meet our client’s needs and exceed expectations.
