“Making strides in reducing its dependence on diesel fuel, the southeast city of Sitka, Alaska, is providing affordable energy options for the island’s 10,000 residents. The Blue Lake Expansion project included raising a more than 50-year-old dam by as much as 83 ft. General contractor Barnard Construction enlisted three different types and brands of crane from Alaska Crane’s fleet to assist with construction.

Front and center on the multi-stage project was a 660-ton capacity Liebherr LR 1600 crawler crane, the largest in Alaska. On site between February 2013 and January 2015, one of its major contributions was lowering a 110-ton capacity Kobelco CK1000 crawler crane, in sections, onto a barge below the dam. A Terex rough-terrain crane hustled from one end of the project to the other, staging and moving materials.”
